ChatGPT’s public launch in late 2022 set the new standard for AI. It very quickly became clear how Weagree could benefit from the quality and versatility of this LLM and the massive resources behind it. Therefore, after verifying that this could be done safely – in compliance with the GDPR, adequately covered by our information security management and above all safeguarding customers’ interests – we have deprecated our previous AI solution and integrated ChatGPT into Weagree instead.
Weagree’s existing framework and interface for automated contract review have been adapted to allow full use of ChatGPT’s capabilities, but in a tightly controlled manner. Instead of relying on a limited set of parameters, Weagree’s AI-tooling can now be used to analyse any conceivable aspect of any contract.
The administrator predefines the variables and AI prompts (which may be taken directly from a template’s questionnaire, but can be tailored fully to this purpose) for a particular type of contract, and optionally apply ratings to any associated risks. This configuration will then be used whenever a user initiates the automated review, everything being submitted automatically to ChatGPT via its secure API.
Because there is no direct input from the end-user, the quality of ChatGPT’s output can be maximised: prompts for a particular type of contract are always the same, improving both the uniformity and accuracy of the AI’s response. The risk of ChatGPT entirely missing the mark or even ‘hallucinating’ can thus be minimised, while the risk of receiving any incorrect legal assessment can be eliminated altogether. ChatGPT need only provide simple factual statements about the text of the contract – not its legal implications. Its answers are then automatically matched by Weagree to any predefined risk rating to identify any actual issues with the contract.
In future updates we will expand on this integration by enabling direct user interaction for specific purposes, such as asking about a contract element not foreseen by the administrator or for assistance in (re)drafting a clause.
