When it comes to adopting new technology, people are reluctant starting with it, even though, as with AI contracting, the benefits are spectacular, and even though the returns of AI-contracting come almost immediately. We go at length to justify unchanged behaviour.
When it comes to onboarding a new team member, we allow several months to get to know each other better and to allow the newcomer to align with team habits and business particularities. We allow juniors a few years to climb the learning curve of skill and expertise. We know from experience that it takes time.
In the 1980s, onboarding new employees was little organised, much ad hoc. Few people had a computer, and no-one a mobile phone to communicate. The word onboarding was for offshore ships. Successfully onboarding a new team member depended on the persons involved.
AI has become the inevitable next step. AI solutions are replacing very substantial parts of manual work. Already now. Yet, why do some people treat this newcomer as if we are in the 1980s? Why don’t we allow AI the attention and investment that we give to a new (junior) team member?
Adopting a change requires several parameters to be addressed:
The fascinating thing with AI is that the benefits are so spectacular that all seems to emphasise that whichever step people take with AI, it is all forward.
4 years Weagree and AI
For well over four years, Weagree has been developing AI functionality (AI-automated contract review, AI-based risk assessment and AI-driven contract data extraction). As we have been working on AI for such long period, we also have been brainstorming how AI will change contracting processes. And we have been adapting the Weagree Wizard accordingly.
We do not know where this AI journey will bring us, but one thing is for sure: it won’t be boring!
