Sometimes, you may find that your choice question doesn’t appear in the questionnaire. This is a fairly common problem and ordinarily easy to solve. There are several likely causes.
1. The question is not correctly tagged
The reason for this issue is usually that the choice question is not actually tagged in the template component where it must be triggered. It is not enough for the choice tree itself to be present: the Weagree Wizard must be told exactly where it should be used. Part of the reason is that such a question may of course have to insert a bit of text within a paragraph. Without the tag, the Weagree Wizard cannot know precisely where that text should be inserted.
Check whether the building block, clause, choice option or lookup table’s cell which should trigger the question actually contains the appropriate tag (e.g. [choice.Duration] or, in case of a global question, [gq.Duration]).
The above also applies to when you intend to string global questions together. If a global choice question’s option must trigger a follow-up global question, ensure that the choice option’s Replaceable text field contains the correct tag for the follow-up question.
If there is a tag but the question still does not appear in the questionnaire, check whether:
- the tag is fully correctly spelled
- pairs of opening and closing brackets are correctly used for all tags within the paragraph (if a tag doesn’t begin with ‘[‘ and end with ‘]’ the Weagree Wizard cannot determine where it begins or ends, which may also affect subsequent tags)
2. The question is not triggered at all
It may also be that the choice question itself is correctly tagged, but is never actually triggered. This can occur if it is embedded in another question or a template component with a clause inclusion. Check whether:
- any choice question containing the tag – i.e. within a choice option, or potentially in the question itself – is tagged and being triggered
- any choice question containing the tag is linked to a global question and configured as intended (i.e. the global question’s choice options must be correctly assigned to each of the local choice tree’s options)
- any component with a clause inclusion linked to a global question is triggering as intended (i.e. the global question’s choice options must be correctly assigned to either the inclusion or exclusion of the component)
3. The question appears elsewhere
If (a choice tree or clause inclusion linked to) a global choice question is correctly tagged and should also trigger normally, it may be appearing somewhere else in the questionnaire than expected.
Check whether the Ask when first triggered setting for the global question is correct. If you’re not sure, simply try changing the setting and see if this solves the issue. For more information, click here.
4. The question is hidden
If none of the above has helped in the case of a global question, it is likely hidden altogether.
Check whether the global question has been pre-answered. You can undo this simply by deselecting the choice option or erasing the answer. For more information, click here.
